Choosing the right type of mulch for you depends on which characteristics best suit your needs.  Each type of mulch has its own set of characteristics that make it suitable for some situations but not for others. Available type of mulch include pine bark mulch, landscape bark mulch, recycled mulch, soft fall mulch, lucerne, pea straw, sugar cane and many other products that can be used as mulch such as granitic sand and lilydale or tuscan toppings and so on.

Why Garden Mulch?

It is very important to mulch your garden. Garden mulch helps to stabilise soil temperatures in the root zone, suppresses weed growth and assists with water retention in the soil. Garden mulch prevents evaporation by shielding the soil from the sun and reduces water run-off during rain or watering.

If installing an irrigation system, such as a drip system, do so before mulching.

Types of Garden Mulch

Organic mulches break down and release nutrients into the soil. Examples include lucerne hay, pea straw, rice hulls, mushroom compost, leaf litter, compost and composted pine bark.

Inorganic mulches such as pebbles, rocks and boulders look good and keep the ground underneath cool and moist. They are often used around cacti and other succulents that do not require additional organic matter.
